Sergeant Rockleigh Edward Hoare
enlisted in the Australian Regular Army on 8 January 1963 and was allotted to
the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
Sergeant Hoare arrived for his second tour in South Vietnam
on 25 March 1970 as an Airframe Fitter with 161st (Independent) Reconnaissance
Flight.
Throughout his tour Sergeant Hoare has proven himself a
reliable and diligent soldier. He has displayed outstanding qualities as a
leader and has built up and maintained a technical standard of high calibre. In
addition to his normal duties Sergeant Hoare has frequently and voluntarily
flown as an observer on low level reconnaissance missions by day and by night
and in this regard he has not only achieved considerable success but has been a
source of continued confidence to the pilots flying such missions.
By his personal effort Sergeant Hoare has provided a display
of military professionalism which has been a continuous source of inspiration to
all ranks. The results of his efforts reflect great credit upon himself, his
Corps and the Australian Army.
